Jack at a BCRO rehearsal
Former (and perpetual honorary) SFRS member Jack O'Neill will lead us this month in playing some favorite music by Arbeau, Bach, Josquin, Jannequin, Obrecht, and Widmann, and he will guide us in good, tried-and-true practicing habits. Read a little about him here:
Around 1996, Jack attended his first recorder workshop and he was thrilled by the experience. He has enjoyed playing in large groups and orchestras ever since then. Not long after that first workshop, he joined the Mid-Peninsula Recorder Orchestra, and then the regular Thursday night recorder sessions at the home of Florence Kress. Jack also played for a while with the American Recorder Orchestra of the West (AROW) under the direction of Richard Geisler, and since 2013 has played with the Barbary Coast Recorder Orchestra (BCRO). For the last twelve years or so, Jack has been a logistical assistant at the San Francisco Early Music Society summer recorder workshops. He considers this, and being a part of the workshop’s recorder orchestra, to be the highlight of his year. It makes him happy. Along the way he learned how to practice, and will share what he calls the two detriments of practice when we meet this month.
